Selective Colorization Tutorial

-----------------------------------------------------

It's a long fancy name for a great photographic technique. It's quick, easy to learn, and it's likely you've seen it before somewhere.

Selective colorization is where the background of the picture appears in black and white, and a small area of the foreground, sometimes the main focus of the image, is left in stark color.

To find out more about selective colorization, see examples, and get started on it yourself, just take a look at my latest tutorial:

Paper Textures

-----------------------------------------------------

Rather than suggest too closely what you should use these images for, I'd rather let your imaginations run wild!

Here's a hint though. Think how often you see sheets of paper lying around. That's an indication of how useful this resource could be.

Do take a look, and let me know if you think of an especially creative use for these paper textures via my contact form. If someone comes up with a truly fantastic idea, perhaps I'll share it in the next newsletter. Check them out here:

Calligraphy Brushes

-----------------------------------------------------

To accompany the paper textures, I've created a free calligraphy brush set for you to download.

There are example images and style suggestions too, so be sure to have a good read of the page for technique ideas.

Updated Brush Download Sections

-----------------------------------------------------

My apologies to anyone who tried to download the calligraphy brush set before it actually went live! The reason it all got a bit out of sync this month is that I've been revamping the brush download sections.

This means two things. The first concerns the download area for my brush sets:

I've altered this section to improve usability, for example there are now quick links at the top to find your brush set. I've also simplified the actual downloads.

The short version of the compatibility instructions is:

If there is the choice between a 'Standard' and 'Extended' brush set, the vast majority of people can download the 'Extended' brush set. The 'Standard' brush set is only included for compatibility with earlier versions.

I've also updated the brush download section for other brush sites. I went on another trawl through the Internet to compile more good resources into the list, and removed a few that had gone downhill.

Take a look at the new site suggestions here:

Align Objects Tip

-----------------------------------------------------

How about a quick-tip to finish?

This one probably only applies to users of the later versions of Photoshop Elements. All the same it's a useful trick to avoid an otherwise tedious job.
