Disable Welcome Screen

Get to work quicker...

We all put up with the occasional splash screen on a program, after all most have them. Personally though, I don't like welcome screens. If you're like me, when you open up a program you already know what you want to achieve, and you don't want an extra step designed to help you decide.

Thankfully in Photoshop Elements it's a breeze to disable the welcome screen, and also to re-enable it if you change your mind. First of all, load the program, and note the menu hidden down the bottom left of the window, labelled "Start Up In:". In case you can't spot it, I've highlighted it in red here.

When you click the small dark arrow, a menu appears that lets you select which mode you would prefer Photoshop Elements to load up in. At this stage, the first option "Welcome Screen" is probably checked.

Welcome Screen Menu

Click on the second option highlighted in red on the picture above, and from now on when the program is started it will display the main editing screen straight away. Or if you prefer, you can select the third option "Organizer". This will start the program in it's photo organiser mode, which will be discussed in more detail elsewhere on this website.

I Want It Back!

Ok, you thought you wanted to skip the welcome screen, but now you're starting to miss it? No problem. We re-enable the welcome screen from the main editor window. If you set Photoshop Elements to start in the Organizer mode, then you can find the main editor window just by clicking the "Edit" icon in the top icon bar.

In the main editor, click on the Window menu, and then find "Welcome", second from the bottom. When you click on this, the welcome screen will be displayed. From here, you can just reselect "Welcome Screen" from the same menu you used to disable it. Problem solved!

This one may be a very simple tip, but it's the little ones that save you the most time if you use them day-in-day-out.

Kind Regards
