Flower Brush Examples
I like to do montages and find a lot of brush sets contain lots of stuff I don't use. I set out to change that.
I made these floral brushes as they are very useful add-ons when doing fantasy landscapes, scrapbooking, card making etc. I have also included a couple of more abstract flower shapes for general use. I specifically included roses which I use quite a lot as I am from the County of Lancashire in the UK and the Red Rose is our County symbol (if you remember your history lessons about the Wars of The Roses). My son and his family live in Holland so I have also included the Tulip, which again I use quite a lot.
The brush making method I use is as follows:
I opened any brush set at random and deleted all brushes except one. I then saved this set in an 'extra brushes' folder on my hard drive, I called it 'aaabrushfile' so that I could always find an empty brush set to use. Once it is saved, delete the last remaining brush so the folder is now empty. The next bit you will only ever need to do once:
Open the 'Actions' palette and make sure 'button mode' is OFF. Now click on 'Create New Set' at the bottom of the Actions Palette. Name it 'Brush Creation', OK. Set will now appear in Actions palette, select this set. Click 'Create New Action' icon at bottom of Actions palette. In the dialogue box name the action 'Make Brushes and Close'. In the 'Set' box select 'Brush Creation'. You can also define a shortcut and a colour - I have used F10 and Blue. Click Record.
Open an image you want to change into a brush. (I only use black/white line drawings). Go to Filter/Sharpen. Go to Image/Adjust/Brightness-Contrast. I have these set at Brightness 0, Contrast 24. Go to Edit/Define Brush. Close the Image. Stop recording the Action. Save the Action Set. Return Action Palette to 'Button Mode'.
If you check the brush set you will now have one new brush saved. You can now open several images and just press your shortcut key and each image will be made into a brush!
When you have finished REMEMBER TO SAVE YOUR BRUSH SET.
