Unzipping the Brushes Regardless of whether you downloaded a brush set or an image set, you will need to unzip the files. This can be done using any free zip utility. If you already have a zip program, then you can go right ahead and download the brushes. Otherwise you will need to get a zip program first. In the spirit of the free Photoshop brushes on this page, I recommend 7-Zip as an excellent free, open source, zip program. You can download it here. |

Brush Compatibility Photoshop Brushes are not backward compatible, due to the introduction of advanced features not available in earlier versions, so you need to download the right brush set for you. You can read more about this issue in my article on Photoshop Brush Compatibility. This is a compatibility chart for my brush set versions. A circle signifies that the brush set is compatible with that program version, and a cross signifies that the brush set is incompatible.
