Photoshop Calligraphy Brush Set

Hand written calligraphy is a click away...

Doesn't everyone have one? That aunt or grandmother with a steady hand, and impeccable handwriting from "the days when they REALLY taught you how to write"?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's fantastic! Credit to them! But personally, I just don't have the skill to produce that sort of thing. My letters wobble all over the place.

So is calligraphy well out of my reach? Well perhaps not. Not with the help of these free calligraphy brushes...

You see, not being a budding calligrapher myself, I enlisted a talented friend I know to create some calligraphy for me. Then I edited and transformed the writing into a Photoshop calligraphy brush set.

This way, you can have access to many of the most commonly used phrases, all in handwritten calligraphy, at the click of a button.

To check out the kind of style I'm talking about, take a look at this example image:

In fact, the list of words and phrases you can make from the set is quite extensive. The brushes were chosen such that a large collection of common phrases could be constructed by piecing the different words together.

The words included in the set are:

Happy, Merry, Congratulations, on your, on

Christmas, New Year, Easter, Hanukkah, Chanukah, Diwali, Ramadan, Thanksgiving, Holiday

Birthday, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0, st, nd, rd, th

Bar Mitzvah, Bat Mitzvah

Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day

Wedding, Engagement, Anniversary, Silver, Ruby, Golden

Graduation, Retirement

It’s a Girl!, It’s a Boy!, You Made It!, You Passed!, Thank You, Sorry, Get Well Soon, Sympathy, Welcome, Cheer Up, Thinking of You, No Special Occasion, Best Friends

Dear, Love, Yours,, From:, To:

These calligraphy brushes can be used in all sort of situations too. A common example would be on cards and envelopes, or to head letters. These brushes work great with my Paper Textures.

Here is an example created in just a few minutes using a few paper textures, and a calligraphy brush:

And you don't just have to stamp the brush on the paper and leave it at that!

The following four images were all created in exactly the same way: First stamp the 'Happy' brush on the 'Fine Writing Paper' paper texture, and you end up with the first image.

To achieve the other images, simply select 'Enhance - Adjust Lighting - Levels' from the menu. When the Levels dialog box appears, play with the three sliding triangles at the bottom of the histogram.

Just using this simple technique (and there are many more!) you can achieve the following range of styles:

So hopefully this Photoshop calligraphy brush set will be versatile enough for all your needs. If you have any comments, they can be submitted via my contact page.

I hope you enjoy these free calligraphy brushes!
